Horsing Around? Make sure you abid by the law!

As a horse rider, I have ridden all over the state of Indiana, on public road ways and in private woods. Little did I know I was at risk of breaking the law, depending on where I was at. Heres a list of Strange Horse Laws that you guys may find interesting, and may realize you broke!

  • It is strictly against the law in Bicknell, Indiana, for a man to leave his new bride alone and go riding with his pals on his wedding day. The penelty is one week jail time!

  • In Bismark, North Dakota every home within the limits of Bismark must have a hitching post in the front yard

  • In Headland Alabama, "Any man on horseback must not tempt another mans wife. An unmarried horseman should not stop overnight if the woman is alone"

  • A wyoming community passed "No women should be found to be riding in a bathing suit, unless accompanied by two armed police men or if she bears a club". Revision were later made to state "this ordinance does not apply if the female weighs less then 90 pounds or exceeds 200 pounds".

  • It is illegel in Marion, South Carolina to tickle a female rider under her chin with a feather duster to get her attention

  • In Pocataligo, Georgia a horse is not to be heard neighing after 10 pm

  • In Bordonville, Vermont it states "No horse is to be found roaming between March 1 to October 20

These are just some of the Strange Horse Laws that exist in the United States, and some may make sense depending on the state, but I'll let ya'll make what you want of the 4th one!
