2010 Reining Freestyle Fascination

As the 2010 All American Quarter Horse Congress got underway, the freestyle reining competition created quite the exhilaration throughout the nation. Laura Mae Schoeller and her horse Pickup Chic won the competition with an absolutely amazing tribute to TB racehorse Smarty Jones. This is a MUST SEE video clip to be able to understand and truly appreciate the talent and excitement of this year’s winning performance.

For anyone out there who has ever ridden in an English saddle and breeches, you completely understand the amount of strength and balance that is required to remain in the saddle. It takes an underestimated amount of might in your legs and abdominal muscles to be able to balance and hold yourself just inches above the seat of the saddle. Now, imagine riding in this style while performing reining! I was absolutely amazed by Laura’s freestyle routine. I have never personally ridden a reining horse, but I do know that these amazing horses are true athletes that have incredible speed, talent, grace, and (most entertaining) BREAKS!!! The amount of training and practice that would be required to achieve a flawless ride such as this year’s is mind boggling to me. I applaud Laura Mae Schoeller and Pickup Chic for an outstanding and memorable performance. Let me know what ya’ll think of this video clip and amazing talent. Later Partner!
