Howdy ya’ll. Winter is definitely here as the cold weather has rolled in and finally decided to stay. Along with the chilly wind, dazzling snowflakes, and glistening ice… Christmas is right around the corner! The holiday season is an extremely busy time of the year with tons of exciting activities and fun traditions that many of us all take part in. To help get us in the holiday spirit, I wanted to share this Sleigh Ride video with ya’ll. It is a wonderful Christmas carol that is accompanied by some gorgeous pictures of horses enjoying the fun of playing in the snow.
I also wanted to share the lyrics of this great holiday song with you all because they paint such an awesome scene within your mind of a very popular and old pastime event that is still enjoyed by many people today… Sleigh Rides!
Just hear those sleigh bells jingling,
Ring ting tingling too
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you,
Outside the snow is falling
And friends are calling "Yoo hoo,"
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you.
Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap,
Let's go, Let's look at the show,
We're riding in a wonderland of snow.
Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap,
It's grand, Just holding your hand,
We're gliding along with a song
Of a wintry fairy land.
Our cheeks are nice and rosy
And comfy cozy are we
We're snuggled up together
Like two birds of a feather would be
Let's take that road before us
And sing a chorus or two
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you.
There's a birthday party
At the home of Farmer Gray
It'll be the perfect ending a perfect day
We'll be singing the songs
We love to sing without a single stop,
At the fireplace while we watch
The chestnuts pop. Pop! pop! pop!
There's a happy feeling
Nothing in the world can buy,
When they pass around the chocolate
And the pumpkin pie
It'll nearly be like a picture print
By Currier and Ives
These wonderful things are the things
We remember all through our lives!
Just hear those sleigh bells jingling,
Ring ting tingling too
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you,
Outside the snow is falling
And friends are calling "Yoo hoo,"
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you.
Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap,
Let's go, Let's look at the show,
We're riding in a wonderland of snow.
Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap,
It's grand, Just holding your hand,
We're gliding along with a song
Of a wintry fairy land
Our cheeks are nice and rosy
And comfy cozy are we
We're snuggled up together
Like two birds of a feather would be
Let's take that road before us
And sing a chorus or two
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you.
I have always thought that a sleigh ride through the snow would SO much fun to do. Just like the picture above, the sight of a horse trotting across the snow pulling a sleigh behind it is an amazing and beautiful thing to see. I have never had the opportunity to take a sleigh ride myself, but I certainly plan to soon (maybe even this year!). I believe the reason that a sleigh ride has always been something I found fascinating is due to:
1) Being a horse owner
2) Finding snow and the great outdoors absolutely beautiful
3) Growing up listening to the song Sleigh Ride that I shared with you earlier and wanting to experience the words myself
Every winter I look forward to the first snow of the year because I love to watch our horses run and play in the powdery white fluff. They enjoy it so much, and so do I because there is absolutely nothing better than seeing horses glide through the snow with grace and ease. I could stand outside our pasture and watch them play for hours if I would not freeze to death first! Their furry coats of hair are much warmer than my cover-alls and coat J
Although the sleigh used to be used as a form of transportation through the ice and snow when working, it has become more of a recreational event. There are many sleigh ride opportunities and businesses that open up during this holiday season to provide people with the chance to experience a ride. Have you ever been on a sleigh ride, or do you dream of taking a ride like I do? Let me know what you all think about sleigh bells in the snow. Later Partner!
